A Hood River weekend moves from Columbia River paths to working orchard roads, then back to a compact downtown and local museums.

Two nights allow one waterfront evening, one orchard day, and a final downtown morning without forcing a mountain drive into every trip.

Stay

Hood River Hotel

Hood River’s oldest hotel sits in the center of downtown, with updated historic rooms, suites and bunkhouse options, and Broder Øst off the lobby.

Main activity

Hood River Fruit Loop

Saturday connects Pearl’s Place or The Gorge White House with one mid-valley stop and, when useful, the orchards near Parkdale.

Weekend range

Riverfront, orchard valley, and town

The riverfront, downtown, and the first Fruit Loop farms sit close together; Parkdale and any Mount Hood extension create the longer day.

Friday

Check in, follow the river path, and eat near the water or Oak Street.

Walk between Waterfront Park and the Event Site, then continue to Portway Avenue for a brewery meal or return downtown for pizza and Northwest cooking.

First dinner

Start with pFriem Family Brewers.

The Hood River tasting room on Portway Avenue pairs pFriem beer with a full meal near Waterfront Park and the Event Site.

Saturday

Follow the Fruit Loop from Hood River toward Parkdale.

Begin with a north-valley farm such as Pearl’s Place or The Gorge White House, add one mid-valley farm, lavender, cider, or winery stop, and continue to Parkdale only if the southern orchards fit your available time.

8:00 AM

Breakfast

Start with River Daze Café.

A downtown café for breakfast and lunch near Oak Street. Its central location makes it a useful first stop before the Fruit Loop drive or a morning in the downtown shops.

10:00 AM

Main activity

Drive the Fruit Loop in three valley stretches.

The north end starts along Highway 35; Packer Orchards, lavender farms, and vineyards fill the middle; Draper Girls and Kiyokawa mark the southern reach. Use the live directory for today’s openings rather than treating every name as a fixed sequence.

4:30 PM

Afternoon

Return north with time for the waterfront or downtown.

The drive back from Parkdale is longer than a north-valley tasting loop. End the orchard circuit early enough to walk beside the Columbia or settle into town before dinner.

7:00 PM

Dinner

Eat on Portway Avenue or in the downtown grid.

Portway Avenue offers pFriem, Ferment, and Solstice after the river. Downtown offers Double Mountain pizza, Celilo’s Northwest cooking, and other distinct kitchens around Oak and State streets.

Sunday

Give Sunday to Hood River history, aviation, or one last river walk.

The Western Antique Aeroplane & Automobile Museum (WAAAM) can fill a substantial indoor morning; the county museum connects the river, orchards, transportation, and wind sports; Columbia Center for the Arts offers a changing downtown calendar.

9:00 AM

Sunday morning

Start with downtown breakfast and an Oak Street walk.

Eat downtown, browse Oak Street, and check the current opening page for the museum or arts stop that fits the morning.

11:00 AM

One last stop

Pick WAAAM, the county museum, or one last river walk.

Choose the aviation collection for a longer indoor visit, the county museum for local context, or Waterfront Park for a final look at the Columbia before I-84.
